Auctions Auto and Buying Repossesed Vehicles

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

Government auctions of repossessed cars, trucks, SUVs etc are a much cheaper way to buy used vehicles. The reason is because vehicles at these auctions are put up for sale at 40 to 70% off their original asking price!

Vehicles that the government acquires come from people that are supposedly involved in criminal cases or simply have bought their property through bad money. When the cars are first repossessed a public garage houses them until the cases have been settled. If the case does not settle in the previous owners favor, it cannot be reclaimed and the vehicle goes to auction.

Mostly it is the private auction houses that the government asks to sell the cars for them. Anyone interested in buying one of the vehicles can now do so from one of these auctions.

However, the locating of these government auctions can be quite difficult. Just walking up to the police station and asking them for the whereabouts of the seized car auctions is not possible. If you are going to find them without an online searching guide, you are going to have to do the searching yourself and take drives out to auction houses.

Usually the auction houses do not advertise for these repossessed cars so you would have to take out your yellow pages directory and check for their numbers. Once you find numbers, youll have to ask which ones handle auctions of government cars.

Visit their office after you find out the ones that do.

At their office look through the listings of government auctions of the repossessed cars. That will give you a chance to short list any car models that you like. Youll want to get the most information out of your visit.

This will include asking what documents you will need to present. Also the date and time of any auctions and other details like how much money you would need if you won a car at auction. Before attending an auction to actually bid on a car its a good idea to go as an observer first if you can.

Being a spectator before trying the bidding process gives you a good start to how everything works.

Last of all, practice restraint. Participants can experience a lot of adrenaline due to the competition in the air. Dont let the fever take you, if the price goes above your budget stop there, you can always bid on another vehicle!
